Ratha Saptami Puja is an important Hindu festival dedicated to the Sun God or Lord Surya. It is also called as Magh Saptami, Jaya Saptami, Surya Jayanti and Maha Saptami. Ratha Saptami Puja falls on the seventh day n he month of Maagha as per Hindu calendar. Lord Surya riding a chariot of seven horses is worshipped on this day. Ratha Saptami Puja also indicates change of season to spring and the start of the harvesting season. This festival is celebrated by Hindus in their houses and temples dedicated to Lord Surya throughout the country. Date for 2013 is on Rath Saptami 17 February.
